USAWA Tony & Allison's 60th Birthday Party

Saturday we threw in for the birthday bash being hosted by Clark's Gym.  Jarrod was planning on hosting, but unfortunately had to cancel.  Kim, Josh and I cranked through the lifts pretty quickly.
  1. Jefferson Lift - This was not too bad and I had a personal best of 355 pounds.  It is nice to come out of the gate strong.  50 year old 95kg record is 424 pounds. (Kim - 175, Josh - 390)
  2. Clean & Jerk, Dumbbell, One Hand, Left - This was tougher.  I felt good warming up and decided to open at 82 pounds.  My next attempt was a miss at 92 pounds.  I prefer using my right hand, but the right hand record is 105 pounds while the left hand record was open. (Kim - 45, Josh - 105)
  3. Vertical Bar, 1 Bar, 1" Right - Another scenario where I wanted to post an open record rather than try to beat the existing record.  I opened at 106, made 131 and missed 156.  My left hand record is 170. (Kim - 86, Josh - 186)
  4. Anderson Press - I really do not like my set up for the Anderson Press.  It is open and I made 145 pounds. (Kim - 85, Josh - 205) - Josh had a strong attempt at 225 pounds but the miss sent the bar careening off of the supports.  That rattled all of us a bit.
  5. Peoples Deadlift - I opened heavy at 390 pound and then missed 410.  I tried 410 just to extend my existing record. (Kim - 185, Josh - 460)
Kim and I skipped the record session, but Josh put up a full five records with the Bench Press, Fulton Bar and the Jefferson Lift all four fingers.

USAWA Nationals Weekend

Me and my daughters left Colorado on Wednesday to spend a few days with Grandma in Memphis before making the drive to Albany, KY for Nationals Weekend.  It was a long drive from Memphis, through Nashville to Kentucky.  We arrived just after 5 PM and were able to squeeze in a bite to eat before the Annual General Meeting was brought to order. Angie’s Restaurant is family cooking and they had a back room that we completely filled with (32) USAWA members plus additional family members.  The meeting started normally enough with typical officer reports but became contentious when new business was taken from the floor.  There was a lot of shouting and belittling, but very little actual discussion.  The elections were conducted and we have a new board with very little all-round and even less international all-round experience. Old Board – Denny (36), Chad (21), Eric (23), Beth (6), Sanjiv (2) – 88 years New Board – Clint (4), Tony (4), Kyle (2), Eric (23), Sanjiv (2) –...

3" Barbell

Against my better judgement, I picked up this Titan Round Grip String Bar with a 3" diameter for $125 (plus another $10 shipping protection and taxes).  It is only used for one USAWA lift and I will probably use it once and be done with it, but I have certainly spent considerably more money for equipment I use on a very limited basis.
